Newsgroups: ott.politics,ott.config Subject: [ONAG] ott.politics charter Followup-to: poster X-Revision: $Revision: 1.2.1.1 $ Original author: aa333@freenet2.carleton.ca (Richard P. Taylor) Original date: 25 April 1997 $Revision: 1.2.1.1 $ Charter for ott.politics ======================== This newsgroup is a place for Ottawa-Carleton residents to discuss political issues and upcoming elections with a focus on the areas of interest to local residents. During previous election campaigns, the National Capital FreeNet has hosted on-line "All Candidates' Meetings" for the discussion of such issues, and as a forum for local candidates. For the upcoming federal, provincial and municipal elections, a broader participation within the community is desired. For the federal election we would also encourage debate in the can.politics newsgroup, but local residents need a place to discuss local issues, and we hope that local candidates will use this forum to respond to local concerns. ------------------- The nature of this newsgroup may lend itself to large debates cross-posted to other newsgroups, losing the LOCAL flavor of the discussion. If you wish to participate in a political discussion with people outside of Ottawa, we recommend that you make use of the ont.politics (Provincial) and can.politics (Federal) newsgroups. Cross-posting in ott.politics will not be allowed. Any message that is cross-posted between ott.politics and another newsgroup will be cancelled automatically. Posting of advertisements should be understood as inappropriate. This includes campaign ads as they might need to be counted as part of the campaign costs, and no 'costing' is available for Newsgroup postings (Hundreds of sites pay for each message). Candidates are strongly invited to participate in the debates, identifying a campaign WEB site, but not posting any 'vote for me' type articles. As specified in the ott.business.ads charter, commercial postings will also be canceled from this newsgroup.
